In February 2021, the Burmese army staged a coup that put an end to an emerging democracy.  Two years later,  thousands of people have been killed by soldiers and airstrikes. Hundreds of armed groups, mostly made of young women and men, are battling the Burmese army all over the country.

In early 2023, Falise travelled for a month through the ethnic Kayah (Karenni) State, a hotbed of the armed resistance. Poorly-equipped young and often inexperienced fighters have devoted themselves to a single mission: to drive out the military junta.
