SURGEONS OF THE REVOLUTION

In February 2021, the Burmese army staged a coup that put an end to an emerging democracy.  Three years later,  thousands of people have been killed by soldiers and airstrikes. Hundreds of armed groups, mostly made of young women and men, are battling the Burmese army all over the country.

In early 2024, Falise travelled for 4 weeks through the ethnic Kayah (Karenni) and Southern Shan States, a hotbed of the armed resistance. While the rebels were making dramatic territorial progress, a secret network of hospitals and clinics was being  set up all over the region. Doctors and nurses treat casualties of war, combattants and civilians victim of airstrikes, drones, artillery and landmines.
